GAGGIA espresso machine GD two groups automatic Compact

Product Description

The Gaggia GD 2-Group espresso machine is a solid choice for busy venues. It features an ergonomic, spacious working area to let the barista brew, steam and froth with ease. Performance and convenience go hand-in-hand with this fully automatic espresso machine. Each brew group has four programmable and one manual coffee button to allow for versatile use. The innovative Gaggia GD also has a separate area for dispensing hot water to make it easier for the barista to prepare hot cocoa, tea or an Americano. Fast-paced environments looking for an adaptable machine would do well to consider the Gaggia GD 2-Group.

With two autonomous brew groups, the Gaggia GD lets the barista multi-task as needed to keep pace with steady guest traffic. A 13-liter copper boiler, dedicated heat exchangers and a 165-watt Procon pump keep the GD well prepared for brewing and frothing operations. The group heads are made of heavy-duty chrome plated brass and are equipped with thermostat-controlled brew group heaters to deliver temperature-stable brewing environments. For easy tracking, there is digital display option is available to show the total number of drinks made per coffee button.

Electric Cup Heater
The GD 2-Group Machine has an integrated electric cup heater. Cups can be set directly on top of the machine to be pre-heated. The cup warmer can be turned on or off as necessary.

Steaming and Frothing
There are two stainless steel steam wands on opposite sides of the machine, each mounted on ball joints and can be rotated to accommodate different-sized frothing pitchers. The steam wands both feature four-hole steam tips for your convenience. The GD is also compatible with the Gaggia Cappuccinatore (not included) to allow for automated frothing capabilities.

Hot Water Dispenser
Unlike most espresso machines, the Gaggia GD 2 Group has a dedicated hot water dispenser mounted right next to the brew group to let the barista easily dispense hot water for a variety of drinks. Since the dispenser is built into to the front of the machine, cups can be set directly onto the drip tray. Furthermore, a mixing valve eliminates steam output from the hot water dispenser for safe operation. The mixing valve can be turned on or off, which will deliver even hotter water.

Summary of Customer Ratings & Reviews

This is also my best espresso machine in 15 years

This is my third espresso machine in 15 years (the other two were NOT Gaggia). This is also my best espresso machine in 15 years. One must learn and practice the art of a barista to create the perfect espresso with this machine--but a perfect espresso is what you get. If you are passionate about espresso (cappuccinos especially ;^) and wish to experience that love at home AND are able to give the attention a quality espresso deserves, then this machine is for you. It takes a little time and a little effort to learn the proper grind and tamping pressure--once that is accomplished (not a difficult task) one can easily claim to make the best espresso in the county--(at least equal it)!

Good machine.

A great machine. No issues at all, it needs to be cleaned a few times a year, and makes a nice hot, espresso.

Easy to use, real Italian Espresso, use your own Fresh ground coffee

Wow! This is very good! Grind up your own coffee and get the frothy, creamy foam from nothing but pure ground coffee the way Italian espresso is supposed to be. I am very pleased. I have a cheap automatic steam espresso machine too that burns the coffee and doesn't have the frothy bubbles like the Gaggia Espresso Machine can do. I give this 5 stars because it is easy to use, produces a real Italian Espresso, and you can use your own fresh ground coffee of choice.

Great product, fast delivery

Highly recommended

Outstanding machine - easy to use and brews a fine espresso. We had a very expensive, built in, all the bells and whistles machine and this is much better.

Great espresso and priced right.

Simple and reliable.,

This coffee machine worked great for our family more then 7 years. Coffee quality was always good w/o any complains. It is very simple, has no electronics (all electric parts are switch and pump) and because of that it is reliable like Colt revolver. Only moment you need to take into consideration: this machine requires soft water. This is pure 5 stars machine, worth every cent it price.

Good but needs a moveable steam wand.

Good machine except the wand doesn't froth the milk very well and it can't be moved so there is little room to actually get enough milk in the jug for a BIGGER cup.

Excellent coffee with Grinder

Love this machine. Don't forget, you HAVE to have the Gaggia grinder to make a perfect espresso. Fresh ground coffee with the right grind is the only way to get a beautiful crema... and this delivers!

Gaggia Classic Coffee Machine

I share most of the views expressed by other Coffeeitalia customers that the Gaggia classic makes a really good cup of coffee. Unfortunately, there are drawbacks to owning this machine. I first bought the Classic about 6 years ago and was really happy with it. Then at approximately the 4 year point it broke down completely. Wishing to retain the machine I sent it back for repair to Phillips, who had then taken over the ailing Gaggia UK subsidiary. It cost me over £100, and was sent back with a 28 day guarantee. After 6 weeks, the machine broke down again. I so loved the coffee that the Classic made that I purchased a replacement through Coffeeitalia. Now, after 2 years that has broken down as well. In neither case was the machine over used - usually just 2 - 3 mugs of coffee a day. I would grade this machine with three stars because of the good coffee it brews, but no more because of its poor longevity. Regretably, I would not buy Gaggia again. This is no criticism of Coffeeitalia which provided an excellent service at a very good price.

ok, but lots of annoyances

We bought this a while ago. first annoyance is that the little pipes for water inlet were high up. Nothing written in instruction that you had to pull them down. Second annoyance is that if you want to empty the watercontainer you will have to pull the little overflow away. Third annoyance is that there is a lot of water left in the filter (because of only one little hole in the filter) and therefore it is very difficult to empty the coffee out of it. If I'd have to choose again I will sepnd a lot of money on a ranchillio. Milk frother we do not use however as my daughter likes her babychinos I decided to still use the machine for that. Well I made about 5 and this is now not functioning anymore. However I have to give it a 3 star as the coffee is good with nice cream layer. Not sure if all of that is due to machine or where we buy our coffee

Does what it should, however....

This machine is very capable. It is, however, supplied with two absolutely useless pressurised baskets for the coffee handle. It's almost hard to believe these things are deemed suitable, they're crap. They block easily and will spray coffee all over your countertop, and that's even when you follow their instructions. Thankfully, I was aware of this pre-purchase and had already placed a separate order for the non-pressurised basket. That one works like a dream. Gaggia/Philips should supply this machine with suitable baskets in the first place. Also of note, Coffeeitalia supplied me with a model different from the one in the above photographs. Whilst still a Gaggia Classic this is not what I was expecting. I've kept the machine but it came close to becoming a return and refund. Better than a Tassimo, anyway!

Cleaning problem

I bought the Gaggia Classic a week ago and straight away I found a problem with disposing of the coffee grounds. There is a design fault with the coffee holder. There are two types of coffee filter holder inserts that go into the main brewing head. One is for ground coffee and the other for coffee pods. The instructions say 'knock out used grounds from filter' which would be the normal way. This is not possible as the filters are not locked into the filter holder in any way. They are too hot to handle straight after a brew so the only way to dispose of the coffee grounds is to wash them out which leaves coffee grounds all over the place. I don't know if this is the same with other coffee machines but I would be interested to hear from anyone who also finds this a problem.

Quality Control

I've had one of these machines for 4+ years (the first one was delivered with a broken steam control). Its a great machine if you willing to spend the time perfecting your coffee. I've just ordered another as a gift and it turned up with both filters faulty, basically the holes in the basket filters weren't drilled right through, probably quire dangerous. I'd love to recommend this product but quality control issues that glaring shouldn't be happening.

Great Coffee

Two weeks of use and I have to say excellent so far, two small issues that prevent a five star 1. Water reservoir is too small, if you use the hot water dispensing function at all you'll find yourself having to refill on a frequent basis, should be twice the volume 2. Buy an unpressurised basket for a better expresso

The element takes longer to heat up than the indicator ...

The element takes longer to heat up than the indicator light would have you believe. Typically Italian. It is all you need to make any coffee type going. It is more of an art than a science. Get one, keep it clean, it helps to filter the water before you put it in (less cleaning and clearer foamier coffee),

Amazing coffee, build quality not quite so good,

Coffee machine has gone back twice because of problems with the valve for producing steam through the steam wand not shutting off properly. Cannot deny that it produces great coffee and froths milk excellently (when it works) and hope that it remains reliable over the rest of its life

The Epicurean

Fine choice

Having had a Gaggia previously I knew that I wanted Gaggia again. My first machine was a Gaggia 'Viva' I think and compared to this the Classic is leaps and bounds better. Quick to heat up, easy to fill, beautiful creamy espresso and looks great. Great choice and I am very happy.

Gaggia Classico

Perfect coffee.. I would prefer a larger water reservior. Have not tried the frother as I like my espresso. Would recommend this to anybody that likes a well made espresso
